Falcon Ridge Folk Festival 2002
From July 25 -28, 2002, I trekked to Hillsdale, NY for the 14th Annual Falcon Ridge Folk Festival. Having been there only once before in 1999 for just one day, I was not sure what to expect when I decided to spend 4 days and 3 nights camping on the hills of Long Hill Farm. I didn't have many expectations, except to enjoy great music, contra dance my heart out, and meet wonderful people. Well I just have to say that my expectations were far exceeded. It was an awesome, magical experience. Even though Dar Williams was not performing this year, I camped at Camp Dar, which is located on the side of a nice sized hill, making for some interesting movement while sleeping. The people that I met at Camp Dar (some for the first time, others I have been previously graced by their presence, and still others I have only talked to over chat) were incredibly nice to this first time camper. I definitely appreciated all their kindness, generosity, and witty conversations. The music for the most part was fabulous. I saw some new to me performers that just blew me away (and burned a hole in my wallet that was well worth it) and the ones I have seen before impressed me even more. The contra dancing was very intense and aerobic despite being tight at the top of the line. It was great seeing people trying it for the first time not sure what to do, knowing that I had once been there before (and still am there at times too). Overall, it was an experience that I will never forgot and I look forward to the next one in 2003. For now, here are some pictures that I took in and around Falcon Ridge.
